[Thanksgiving Collab] Upscale Natural Makeup with Xharpism

It's Thanksgiving Day and I thought it would be great to do a blog post featuring this lady which I'm very grateful for having met this year. For this collab, we wanted to feature our strengths and for me, that is doing makeup and for her, it's styling. I'm going to take you through the process and the products that I've used in doing her makeup.

Before I head on to the makeup, let me introduce this lovely lady I'm collaborating with. Her name is Sharmaine and she blogs over at Xharpism which features fashion, beauty lifestyle and photography. She might be familiar to you if you've read my East Coast Blogger Date post, since she's one of the bloggers who was part of the meet. Also, if you have kept up with me on my social media (@urhappybunnie), I often feature her. It is such an honor to collab with her especially for Thanksgiving because I'm really grateful for her friendship. Even though we've only known each other for less than half a year, we practically are like sisters and rely on each other so much. It's so easy to get close to this gal because she's one of the sweetest, honest and down to earth person you'll meet. She's a smart one too - taking up Engineering at NYIT.

Let's get to know her more shall we. I've asked her a few random questions and here's what she has to say:

  • You're both into fashion and photography, which one are you more comfortable in, in front or behind the camera?
    • As a child, I always loved being the center of attention. But don't judge. I was always a silly and goofy child. I still am. I'd say I am comfortable in front of the camera but there was one point in time that I was not. It was at the beginning of my high school career. That's when I decided to really focus just on photography and only being in front of the camera because being in front of the camera was like a default to me. I used to love taking tons of selfies. Though right now, I can say I have gained back my confidence in being in front of the camera and at the same time still be comfortable behind it. I just know I love being in both positions.
  • Who and/or what is your style inspiration?
    • I would say a lot of Asian artists and bloggers such as Irene of @ireneisgood, Yoyo of @yoyokulala and Krystal of @vousmevoyez. I also read and look at different digital magazines. Also, a lot of it comes from curating looks from different Korean music videos. But who really inspires my style is my sister. She is an artist and she dresses well. Though her style is so much different from mine, I think that's how I really discovered the style that truly reflects my personality because I see different looks from my sister.
  • How do you get dressed in the morning?
    • How I get dressed in the mornings really depends on my mood. Sometimes, the night before I would already have an idea of what to wear but even then if my mood changes in the morning, the outfit alters as well. Most of the time though, I just pick out whatever is the easiest to wear because I am always rushing to get out of the house. However, I always make sure I am comfortable and presentable in that look, you never know who you're gonna bump into during the day.
  • What would you wear on the first date?
    • To a first date? To be honest, I don't like "dressing up" when I hang out with guys but I would probably throw on signature jeans (preferably black or dark navy blue during the fall and winter, light in the summer) pair it whit a dressy top an put on simple jewelries (watch and a necklace). Remember, less is more. Then, I'll finish the look with a flashy or funky oxfords or flats and a handbag. Oh and of course, my self confidence and smile!

Now that we somehow know this spirited girl, it's time to get to the fun part, her makeup! Here's a complete product list of the makeup and the process that went with it.

Face/Cheeks:

  • Catalina Geo Color Capsule Makeup Base in Purple - Sharmaine has been suffering with stress break outs recently so I decided that more than anything, she needs a color correcting base in order to eliminate the redness and brighten the skin tone. Purple eliminates yellow undertones and is good for those with dull and pasty complexion. Although she has redness because of her break outs, the other parts of her skin which aren't affected are dull. This product will brighten up her face and will provide longevity to her base makeup.
  • e.l.f Corrective Concealer Palette (Green) - Now that we've brighten up the skin, it is time to do some color correcting. If you have extreme redness, chances are, this will peek through your foundation. To correct redness, we apply the green shade on these blemishes. Applied with a brush and blended out with a Beauty Blender.
  • Kat Von D Lock It Tattoo Concealer in Medium - Since I'm going to use a light coverage foundation, I'm applying a full coverage concealer on the blemishes to completely hide them.
  • First Aid Beauty Triple Protection Skin Tint w/ Goji Berry in Medium - One of my latest discoveries through another friend of mine. This is a lightweight foundation, that has a light to medium, buildable coverage. I applied this on the rest of the areas I didn't apply a concealer on and just used the Beauty Blender to disperse the product, making sure that I blend down the neck and on her hairline and also by the ears.
  • Maybelline Fit Me Concealer in 20 Sand - If you've been with me for awhile, you know that this is one of my go to concealers. This one in particular I use to highlight the face. Because She doesn't really have dark under eye circles like I do, most of it was covered by the foundation already, I applied this underneath her eyes and blended it out just for brightening.
  • Laura Mercier Transluscent Powder - Since it's getting colder I've been avoiding too much baking and powdering on myself but Sharmaine voice out that she has on oily skin thus, I decided only to half bake her face. Ok, so you know what baking is right? For those who don't, baking is this makeup step where you use loose (highlighting/transluscent) powders to highlight and set areas of your face. You use a damp makeup sponge, press in loose powder to areas of your face, leave it to set for about 10 minutes before brushing it off. So for half baking, I applied a lesser amount of powder on her under eyes, forehead, nose and chin and buffed the powders onto her skin after only two minutes. The First Aid Beauty Skin Tint already has a satin to matte natural finish so I don't want her face to get cakey as her oils come up her skin throughout the day if I full on baked her face.
  • Kat Von D Shade + Light Contour Palette in Shadowplay - This contour shade is the best for medium skin tones and definitely a favorite of mine too. I didn't contour Sharmaine's face heavily as I like to do on myself. I kept it fairly light, applying it on the hollows of her cheeks, temples, jaw and neck.
  • Kat Von D Shade + Light Palette in Subconscious - This is the lightest contour shade in the palette and I find that this really good for nose contour. I also lightly contoured her nose.
  • NARS Orgasm Blush - Natural pink flush on her cheeks by this cult-favorite blush, applied on her cheeks and blended toward the back of her cheeks.
Brows:

  • Ardell Brow Pomade in Medium - Another one of my go to, affordable, brow products is the Ardell Brow Pomade. I have gone through so many of this that it is only fitting that I use this on Sharmaine. She has a very nice arched brows and I just filled it in with this brow pomade.
  • NYX Tinted Brow Mascara in Brunette - The pomade is a little bit dark on her so with this brow mascara it lightened it a little bit to make it seem more natural. In all honesty I'm not a huge fan of this brow mascara because it has the most awful smell for a beauty product. However I could get past that as long as I don't smell it. I have yet to find a great and affordable alternative for this one so if you have a recommendation, please let me know!

Eyes:

  • Urban Decay Naked Ultimate Basics Palette
    • Pre-Game - Applied all over the lid with a flat shader brush. This is just a base shadow, just to make sure that the lids are smooth and even in color.
    • Faith - Using a fluffy blending brush, apply this shade on the outer corner of the lid, dragging it into the crease. Continue blending with a windshield wiper motion.
    • Lockout - With the same blending brush, apply on top of Faith for more depth. Use a clean blending brush to buff out the shadows on top of your crease and brow bone area.
    • Extra Bitter and Lockout - mixing both shades, use a smudge brush and apply on the outer half of the lower lash line. Make sure to blend shadows on the lower lash line with a blending brush.
  • Tony Moly Backstage Gel Eyeliner in 02 Brown - Line the upper lash line and tightlined. I added a small wing as requested because Sharmaine said she never had them before and would want to see how she looks with it. Whatever product that was left on my brush, I dragged it to the lower lash line to smoke it out a little bit.
  • Juvia's Place Nubia Palette - Rose Gold - This shadow in the top right of the Nubian Palette is one of my favorites and I have hit pan on it (This is my back up palette). I applied this to the inner corner of Sharmaine's eyes and the inner third of lower lash line to brighten up her eyes.
  • Maybelline Colossal Cat Eyes Mascara  - I would have loved to put lashes on this girl but she said she's more comfortable with masacara so I went with a fave for lengthening and defining.

Lips:

  • Bare Minerals Gen Nude Matte Matte Liquid Lip Color in Juju - This mauve-pink shade is a neutral shade that flatters all skin tones. It looks so natural and is low maintenance when worn so you don't need to worry about lips cracking after wearing it for a long time or the struggle of re-applying precisely like you do for other liquid lipsticks.

Beautiful isn't she? Please head over to her blog, Xharpism, as she writes on how she styled me for this collab!

Have a wonderful Thanksgiving! I hope you get to spend it with your loved ones.
