Oscars 2014 Red Carpet Inspired Makeup Look

The Oscars 2014 will be held on Sunday, March 2, 2014 and I was requested to do an Oscars Red Carpet inspired makeup look by the wonderful twinsies, Michelle and Katherine of M + K (they're tomorrow's Ur Made Up Face featured bloggers too!) ^^ Perfect, coz I never really am interested in award shows except for the celebrity makeup and fashion on the red carpet. I will only watch awards shows if I'm looking forward to a performance or if I really want some of the nominees to win.

So here's my version of a red carpet makeup look: simple, classy and glamorous.

Face/Cheeks:

  1. For a red carpet event, with lots of cameras, clicking to take amazing photos of you, you would definitely want to start with a face primer to cover up those nasty pores, smooth the skin and help the makeup last all night long. I'm using Benefit Porefessional Face Primer, applying it on the cheeks, T-zone and chin - apply it on the areas where your pores are concentrated.
  2. I'm using two foundations first is the Revlon Photo Ready Foundation in 003 Shell. This foundation is full coverage and great for photographs, however, I find that applying this all over the face gives a thoroughly bright and highlighted look. The shade Shell is also too light for me so I'm using this foundation as a highlighter/concealer. I'm applying this under my eyes to cover up under eye circles, forehead, bridge of the nose, forehead, and chin. I'm blending this out with a synthetic brush, Real Techniques Setting Brush.
  3. With a foundation that matches my skin tone well, Maybelline Fit Me Foundation in 220, apply it to the areas where the first foundation wasn't applied. Blend well with the other foundation.
  4. Lightly set the foundation with a powder which has a slight coverage, MAC Mineralize Skinfinish Natural in Medium Deep.
  5. Since we are going minimal on the eyes and sporting red lips, contouring the face is very important to achieve a sculpted and put together look. Using NARS Laguna Bronzer, contour the cheeks, temples, jaw, and the nose.
  6. Apply a peach/pink blush at the back of the cheeks to help contour but add a little bit of color to the face - NARS Deep Throat Blush.
  7. Highlight the high points of the face, the tops of the cheeks, bridge of the nose, Cupid's bow, chin and forehead - MAC Mineralize Skinfinish Soft & Gentle.
  8. Mist on MAC Fix+ to prevent a cakey look and for your makeup to stay throughout the night.

Brows:
  • I'm really defining my brows and darkening them up to frame my face using the Graymelin Seven Tattoo Eyebrow in Dark Brown
Eyes:

  1. The first step in eye makeup is always priming the eyes, so starting off with Urban Decay Primer Potion in Original all over the lids.
  2. Using a copper toned shadow, L'oreal Infallible Eyeshadow in Amber Rush, apply it all over the lids with a flat eyeshadow brush. With the tip of the same brush, apply it all over the bottom lash line as well.
  3. With a crease brush, take a deep chocolate brown shade, NYX Eyeshadow in Rootbeer, apply it on the outer V of the eyes to lightly define the crease. With a pencil brush, bring this shade to the outer half of the bottom lash line.
  4. For the brow bone highlight, use a matte crean shadow, Wet n Wild Eyeshadow in Brulee.
  5. Apply a water proof black liner to both upper and lower waterline, NYX Eyeliner in Jet Black.
  6. Create a dramatic sharp wing on the upper lash line, Graymelin Control Sharp Liner Waterproof Black.
  7. Highlight the inner corner of the eyes with the MAC MSF in Soft and Gentle using a pencil brush.
  8. Curl the lashes and apply a thin coat of Maybelline Volum' Express MegaPlush Mascara Waterproof to the upper lashes. Apply two coats to the bottom lashes so they will stand out as well.
  9. Apply false lashes to bump up the look, Ardell Natural Wispies.

Lips:
  • I'm lining the lips with Urban Decay 24/7 Lip Pencil in Naked and topping it with a matte red lipstick, MAC Riri Woo. Use a lip brush to perfect the red lip application.

Red Carpet look done! Now you can rock this look to any glam event.

2NE1 CL Birthday Makeup Look

2NE1 fans all over the world are rejoicing right now because finally 2NE1's long awaited second full length album was just released a few hours ago! I'm so happy because 2NE1 is honestly one of my favorite KPop group. The album, CRUSH, is released on the leader, CL's, birthday which is February 26, and as a tribute, I'm here to bring you another CL inspired makeup look. if you have missed it, I previously a Bad Girl inspired look, you can check it out here.

Anyway, this makeup look is from the birthday poster that was uploaded at YG-Life for CL. I tried my best in recreating the look, but keep in mind I have totally different features as her. Hope you enjoy this!

 Face/Cheeks:

  • Covergirl Outlast Stay Fabulous 3 in 1 Foundation - Apply foundation all over the face for a flawless and smooth canvas.
  • Kat Von D Lock It Tattoo Concealer in Medium 28 - Cover under eye circles
  • NARS Bronzer in Laguna - Contour the face lightly
  • NARS Blush in Deep Throat - Lightly apply the blush near the back of the cheeks for a subtle flush
  • Benefit Watt's Up Cream Highlighter - Apply on the forehead, bridge of the nose, around the nose, Cupid's bow and under the eyes. Blend out with a brush or a clean finger.

Brows:
Urban Decay eyeshadow in Buck - fill in the brows into a rounded arch shape to mimic CL's brows in the photo

 Eyes:

  • Urban Decay Eyeshadow Primer Potion Original - Prime the eyes
  • Maybelline Eyestudio Quad in Irresistibly Ivy - Apply the antique gold shade (2nd shadow) all over the lids with a shadow brush. Next, take the reddish brown shadow (4th shadow) with a fluffy brush and apply it on the outer corner of the lids, bringing it up on the crease, blending it with the gold shadow. Also, bring the brown shadow on the bottom lash line.
  • Maybelline Eyestudio Gel Liner in Blackest Black - Outline the shape of the liner on the lids and then fill in the gaps with the gel liner. Do the same with the lower lash line. Don't forget to line the upper and lower lash line with the gel liner too.
  • Urban Decay Eyeshadow in Blackout - With any black shadow, pack this shade on top of the gel liner to set it. Also do this on the bottom lash line and blend it out for a softer look.
  • Maybelline Eyestudio Quad in Irresistibly Ivy - Take the light, shimmer shade on a pencil brush and apply it on the inner portion of the lower lash line below the gel liner.
  • Maybelline Volum' Express Colossal Cat Eyes Mascara Waterproof - Curl the lashes and apply one coat of mascara
  • Lonjure Lashes in N2 Angel -Apply full lashes.

Lips:
  • Estee Lauder Lipstick in Pinkberry
  • Milani Color Statement Lipstick in Hot Pink Rage - Since I don't have a lipstick with the same shade as CL's I just mixed this lippies to achieve a slightly similar shade.
  • NYX Lipgloss in Mauve - Top it off with a gloss.

Sharing my love of KPop. Give a listen to 2NE1's new album, CRUSH. Seriously, all the songs are great! A good mix of hip-hop, R&B, reggae, electro and a lot more! The album is available in iTunes! Let's wait for their MVs to drop! ^^

Fun fact: my bias is actually Dara and not CL but i always love CL's makeup. :)

Blog Update + Popping Blue Makeup Look

Hi ladies! I usually update my blog at least 3-4 times a week but as some of you have probably noticed, I only had one blog post up aside from the Ur Made Up Face Series that goes up every Saturday. I've been really depressed for the past few weeks but I've been trying my best to have at least one post up for you guys.

Aside from being sad and down, I am also on a no makeup buy until April so I won't be reviewing that much products except for the products that I already have and have been meaning to do a review on and the items that will come in my BNT Beauty Box. With that being said, expect more makeup looks and hopefully, collaborations with other beauty bloggers as well. If you have any makeup look requests, please do not hesitate to leave it on the comments down below. :)

All right, enough rambling, here's a makeup look that I don't normally go for but it's fun, bright, and smokey.

Face:
  • Covergirl Outlast Stay Fabulous 3 in 1 Foundation - Apply a good foundation, if you're planning to wear this for a night out, a full coverage foundation would be great to cover up all the imperfections.
  • Physicians Strength Concealer Rx in Natural Light & Kat Von D Lock It Tattoo Concealer in Medium 28 - This is a concealer combination that I have been loving recently. I've had the Concealer RX for a long time but it's to light for me but it has a pink undertone which is great to cancel out the darkness under the eyes. The Lock It Tattoo Concealer which matches my skin is great on top of the Concealer Rx and it gives a slightly highlighted under eye. Of course, you can use whichever concealer that works for your under eye circles and blemishes.
  • MAC Mineralize Skin Finish Natural in Medium Deep - I applied this only on top of my concealer to set it.
  • NARS Laguna Bronzer - Contour the cheeks, jaw, temples and nose for a slightly slimmer looking face.
  • NARS Blush in Goulue - Taking a deep plum/rose blush, apply it on the cheeks (I apply it near the back of my cheeks - that's just the way I like to apply mine).
  • NARS Highlighter in Devotee - Apply the highlight shade on the areas where the light naturally hits the face - tops of the cheeks, bridge of the nose, forehead, Cupid's bow and chin.

Brows:
Wet n Wild Brow Kit

Eyes:
I'm using shadows from the Urban Decay Vice 2 Palette but of course, you can always substitute shades with the ones you have.

  • Too Faced Shadow Insurance in Candlelight - Start off with an eyeshadow primer to keep your shadows in place and make them more vibrant. I'm using a base with shimmer to intensify the shimmery blue shadow that we will be using.

  1. Apply Madness (a shimmery blue shade) all over the lid with a flat shadow brush.
  2. Apply Prank (a navy/turquoise shade) on the outer corner of the eye with the other side of the flat shadow brush that we used to apply Madness.
  3. With a crease brush, apply Poison (a black shadow with a bit of glitter - but it doesn't show up once blended) on the crease and lightly blend it with Prank. Blend everything nicely without bringing it too much high above the crease. This is if you want the colors to be more on the lid. This is especially a great look for Asian eyes but of course, if you want a more defined crease, feel free to adjust the eyeshadow application and go as far up as you want, just remember to leave an area for a brow bone highlight!
  4. For the brow bone highlight, I used Habit, a matte cream shade.
  5. Apply Madness again on the lower lash line for a nice pop.
  6. Mixing Prank and Poison on the tip of the flat shadow brush, apply it on the outer corner of the lower lash line, connecting it with the shadow on the outer corner of the upper lash line. Don't forget to blend!
  7. Apply the shade Dope on the inner corner of the eye for a brighter eye look with a pencil brush.
  • Urban Decay 24/7 Glide On Eye Pencil in Zero - Apply on the upper and lower waterline.
  • Graymelin Control Sharp Liner Waterproof Black - Apply a  liquid liner on the upper lash line, depending on how you like to apply your liquid liner, go as thin, thick or boldly wing it!
  • Maybelline Volum' Express Mega Plush Mascara & Maybelline Volum' Express Colossal Cat Eyes Mascara - I love layering mascara and the Mega Plush gives a wispy false lash look and the Colossal Cat Eyes is great for lengthening.
Lips:
Urban Decay 24/7 Glide On Lip Pencil in Naked - Keeping the lips nude, I just applied this Naked Lip Pencil and topped it off with the Urban Decay Naked Lipgloss in Naked.

Fun fact: I wore this look for family Thanksgiving Dinner back in November. ^^

Hope you guys enjoyed this look! Look forward to more makeup looks!

Thanks for sticking with me avid readers!

Ur Made Up Face 12 | Ray

I love discovering new blogs and bloggers and today's featured blogger for the Ur made Up Face Series is Ray from ObeyRay which I stumbled on a few months back. I love how her blog looks so simple and chic and how she writes her product reviews -honest and straight to the point.

Hello!  I'm Raizel or Ray for short.  I am the author and owner of ObeyRay.com, a beauty blog that features tips and reviews.  I love travelling, watching films, and trying new foods.

The last place I travelled to was Paradise Island in the Bahamas, which was amazing, and a few months before that I went to Disney Land in Florida.  This year I’ve planned to go to Las Vegas for my 21st birthday in May, and then an island in Mexico in August.

The last film that I watched in theatres and liked was The Wolf of Wall Street.  I think I developed a little crush on Leonardo DiCaprio afterwards.

My two favourite foods in the entire world are sushi and macarons.  My favourite types of sushi are crazy dragon roll, dragon roll, or volcano roll, and my favourite flavour of macaron is pistachio.

When getting ready, I usually connect my iPhone to a portable speaker and blast some music.  I usually listen to Rap, R&B, and old-school pop (i.e. N’Sync, Britney Spears).

I usually wear the same look every time I wear makeup.  I’ll just change up my lipstick or blush colour depending on my mood.  I never wear any eye-shadow, because I never really got used to it.  Here is my ‘everyday’ makeup look.

The products I use are:

  • Laura Mercier Foundation Primer
  • MAC Studio Fix Fluid mixed with Make Up For Ever HD Foundation
  •  CoverFX CC Crème
  •  Almay Liquid Eyeliner
  •  Urban Decay Naked Basics Palette (for eyebrows)
  •  Estee Lauder Eyeliner
  • Benefit Hoola Bronzer
  •  NARS Orgasm Blush
  •  Urban Decay Make Up Setting Sprays
  •  NYX Matte Lipstick

For those days when I don’t need to wear too much makeup I’ll skip the liquid eyeliner and bronzer.  The one makeup item I can’t live without is lipstick or gloss.  I always have to put something on my lips before I go out or I’ll feel incomplete.

Thank you Joanne for featuring me on your blog!

XO
-Ray

Quick Review: Covergirl Outlast Stay Fabulous 3 in 1 Foundation

So many beauty bloggers and Youtubers have crowned Covergirl Outlast Stay Fabulous 3 in 1 Foundation as their favorite drugstore foundation for the last few months of 2013 and I tested out this foundation for the past two months to find out what is so great about it to have a lot of people rave about.

Covergirls Outlast 3 in 1 Foundation has a good range of shades to select from in the drugstore and I went for 842 Medium Beige since it's usually my shade and it looks light in the bottle but I went ahead for it since the next shade looks a bit dark for me. However, I find that upon application, it is indeed a shade or two lighter than my skin tone.

The texture is liquidy and it has that fresh scent that Covergirl foundations always have. this foundation looks natural although it does have a medium to full coverage and it feels pretty light on the skin too. It evens out the skin pretty well, neutralizes redness and covers small blemishes. It didn't hide my dark circles though and I still have to use a concealer to cover those up.

This foundation lasts me a good 6 hours of wear which is pretty good for a drugstore foundation. One downside about this foundation is that it highlights dryness on the skin and even with a good moisturizer on before application, I can see dry patches along my forehead, which I don't usually get even if my skin is really dry.

It is a primer, foundation and concealer in 1 and I had such high hopes for this, but it just isn't right for me. It photographs really well and you get a really flawless look but on a close inspection, the dry patches are just not pretty to look at. I also didn't get a good color match despite the range of shades that they have. I really have no such luck with Covergirl foundations but hopefully they will come out with something in the future that I would like.

Ur Made Up Face 11 | Kyle

Hello ladies! It's Saturday! Ur Made Up Face featured blogger today is Kyle, a Filipina fashion blogger. Let's get to know her together and see what look she has in store for us today.

I'm Kyle Rodriguez, 23 years old. I'm a Filipino who was born in the United States, but grew up in Germany and Thailand. I'm currently a 2nd-year student at San Beda College Alabang, and on my free time I'm an official style blogger who hopes to inspire others with my day-to-day looks. I am the face behind THE STYLISH BIPOLAR blog on http://itsthekyliebabii.blogspot.com

When I'm doing my makeup, I always play Arctic Monkeys songs in full blast on my CD player (yes I have an iPod but I still prefer my old-school CD player lol).

On a normal day, I tend to keep my make-up extremely simple by focusing on simply perfecting my skin tone, adding some blush, and a red lipstick. On special days I also contour and highlight my entire face ala Kim Kardashian, but I don't do that daily.

My everyday makeup products are:

1) Pond's Age Miracle Moisturizer
2) Revlon Photo Ready Liquid Foundation
3) Revlon New Complexion Powder Foundation
4) NYX Dusty Rose Blush
5) EXCEL PARIS Lip Tint in Extreme Rouge
6) Yves Saint Laurent 'Touche Eclat' Highlighter Pen

The reason I keep my makeup simple is because I believe that "natural" beauty looks best. Obviously I also like glamorous makeup for special events but on a regular day-to-day basis it's best to keep it simple. Use makeup to "enhance" your features, not to change your entire face.

My one beauty product that I absolutely cannot live without is my YSL 'Touche Eclat' Highlighter Pen. It is the best makeup product in the world! It can instantly make you look lively and glowing, conceal your dark spots, highlight your nose and cheekbones, and make you look more awake on those days when you haven't had enough sleep and feel like a zombie. It's a definite must-have!

Limecrime Retrofuturist Lipstick Review & Swatch

Finally had the time to review one of my favorite red lippie to date, the Limecrime Retrofuturist Lipstick.

I got this lipstick from Urban Outfitters as a Christmas gift for myself since I've been dying to have a Limecrime Lipstick Collection for awhile now but I've every time I buy a new lipstick I always forget about this brand. Seeing that Urban Outfitters was doing free shipping with no minimum price purchase during the holidays, I took the chance to get one for myself and I picked the shade I would most likely get a lot of wear of.

The packaging is just so adorable! It comes in a purple bullet tube with holographic unicorn and stars design that just looks so nice sitting on the vanity. I must say that out of all the lipsticks I own this is has the best packaging!

Limecrime Retrofuturist is a red, blue based lipstick with a nice slightly glossy finish. It applies smoothly on the lips and the color is very opaque. It has a vanilla scent which is similar to MAC lipsticks. Because of the texture of this lipstick, it slips and tends to feather around the edges of the mouth so a lip liner is necessary if you want this full on on the lips. Because I'm not a huge fan of using lip liners, what I like doing with this particular lippie is to blot if off with a paper towel and smooth it out with my finger. This gives a stained lip effect and the great thing about it, is that even if the product is blotted, the lips are still nicely moisturized.

This has been my go to red lipstick for that soft berry stained lips. I have also used this lipstick for my Disney's Elsa Frozen Inspired Makeup Look.
