Maybelline Volum' Express MegaPlush Review

I've gotten quite a handful of people looking forward to this review so here it is!

Introducing Maybelline's latest Volum' Express Masscara - the Mega Plush. First off, very nice packaging. I always love Maybelline's colorful packaging for their mascaras.

The brush reminds me of a cross between the Maybelline Colossal and One by One. The formula is neither watery nor dry, just right in the middle. It thickens the lashes, and gives a nice volume. It lengthens but not that much but it does gives a very good length considering that I have really short, stick straight Asian lashes. And speaking of stick straight lashes, this mascara does hold a curl pretty well. It separates the lashes really well after one coat but two to three coats would thicken the lashes and give a spidery effect to it, which I don't hate and sometimes I really love the effect.

Overall I think this is a pretty impressive mascara. Way better than the Maybelline One by One and is clearly a step up from the Colossal. Comparing to all the Maybelline mascaras I currently have and tried I think this is probably my second favorite - with the Magnum as first and the Falsies original and flared coming third and second.

Here's a comparison photo using the MegaPlush

I hope this answers a lot of questions for those who wants to try this one out. Have a great day! :)

Instagram Me: Aqua Eyes and Sequined Collar

I'm trying out this blogger app from my Samsung Galaxy S3 and what better way than to post about an outfit and face of the day. I went out to shop today and since I haven't really been out for quite awhile I decided to pop a little color on my eyes and wear something nice - a sheer top with a sequined collar.

I love my sheer tops and I especially love this one for it's cream color and gold sequined collar. I found it at Marshalls for only $13. Fine find eh? ;) I paired it with just a simple skinny jeans and funked it up with my black and gold arrowhead layered necklace from Charlotte Russe, gold triangle/pyramid dangling earrings, pyramid stud bracelet both from Forever21 and the Blush cross bracelet. Plus of course my favorite silver Skagen watch. For shoes I chose my comfy pair of black flats.

We are entering fall but I'm still hooked on summer so what better way than to bring a pop of color to the eyes.

Maybelline Dream Fresh BB Cream Review and Flawless Face Routine

Both drugstore and high end beauty brands have gotten into the BB Cream phase here in the US. I recently purchased the Maybelline Dream Fresh BB Cream at the drugstore a week ago as seen in my drugstore buys haul post.

BB Creams has been famous in Asia for the past couple of years. It's initial purpose was to help people who have just undergone surgeries and procedures to protect their face and give them slight coverage. BB Creams, also called Blemish Balm, Beblesh Balm, Beauty Balm or Blemish Base is a hit since it has a lot of properties - moisturizer, primer, sunblock, foundation, etc.

I am really impressed with the Maybelline DF BB Cream which claims to be an 8-in-1 Beauty Balm Skin Perfector. It says that it 1) blurs imperfections, 2) enhances, 3) brightens, 4) adjust to skin tones, 5) smoothes, 6) hydrates 7) SPF 30 protection, and 8) has 0% oils and other heavy ingredients.

I believe that it does perform very well according to its description but it has a sheer coverage and although it does blur imperfections it cannot completely cover up blemishes or hyperpigmentations/acne scars as well as dark circles under the eyes. It does a very good job of evening out the skin tone though.

I am really pleased that it has more shades to offer than Asian BB Creams. Asian BB Creams only has one or two shades to choose from and has a gray undertone that can make you look ghastly even if it claims to adjust to your skin tone. I am Asian but Asian BB Creams still is lighter than my skin color and does give me a lighter shade when I use them (will talk about that in another review). I got the Maybelline DF BB Cream in the shade Medium and it blends and matches perfectly with my skin. No ashy effect whatsoever. I am thankful that I have no pimple breakouts for quite awhile and thus making this BB Cream effective for a natural look.

Watch out! The formula is a bit watery. Other than that I have no complaint about this particular BB Cream. Oh, and since this product has moisturizing properties I wouldn't really recommend this for people who has oily skin and it does have a slightly dewy finish to it.

Flawless Face Routine

Using the Maybelline Dream Fresh BB Cream I have attained a flawless natural look that I've been wearing a lot lately. Even though we're transitioning to the fall season, it is nice to wear something light, fast and easy that you could confidently walk out the door without putting a lot of makeup on.

I use my Ever Bilena Mousse Concealer (which gives medium to high coverage), with my ring finger, I just dab a little under my eyes to cover my dark circles and  the remaining around my nose to cover the redness and apply the BB Cream all over my face using my Sigmax F80 Flat Top Kabuki Brush. And that's it, I'm done - and well, fill in my eyebrows since they are so sparse. :)

I was going out to talk a walk so I was just in a comfy shirt :)

I find that that using a brush gives you more coverage than just using your fingers to apply the BB Cream and it does help get you that flawless, airbrushed, natural look.

I hope you guys find this helpful. ^^

Drugstore Buys 8/15/12

It's been awhile since I've bought something from the drugstore. I've been visiting our nearest Rite Aid a lot but I haven't bought anything beauty related for quite some time. Usually I run there for errands.

Here are the items I've picked up last week that's mostly due to the great deals going on at the store. Since I'm almost out of my shampoo I went ahead and got Aussie shampoo. I've heard a lot of great things about this brand and since it's Buy One Get One Free, I treated myself to it's Hair Insurance Leave In Conditioner too. Maybelline also has the BOGO Half Off promo for their face and eye makeup so I thought it's a great way to try their new BB Cream and MegaLush Mascara. Last but not the least I got the Burt's Bees Lip Balm with Peppermint and Vitamin E since I ran out of Carmex and it has been a long time since I purchased anything Burt's Bees.

So far I've been loving all of these products. Let me know what you think about these products if you've tried them. :) Oh, and I'd be posting up a review pretty soon for the Maybelline BB Cream and MegaPlush Mascara.

Addicted to Candles and Oils

Sex toys - EdenFantasys adult toys store

I've always been a fan of candles, oils and scents but since I went back home to the Philippines, I've been addicted. Weird since there are more scent options here in the US.

And here is where EdenFantasys come in. It is not just an online sex shop that sells sex toys and such. They have a lot to offer for women too in terms of clothes/dresses, makeup, bath and body products and candles too! They have amazing selection of candles and massage oils that will relax you and put you in a really good mood.

In need of a good massage oil? Most of the candles they have on sale double up as massage oils. Treat yourself and your partner to a soothing and sensual massage by dripping the warm oil from the lighted candle. The oils from the candles are safe to apply on the body and absorbs nicely thus giving you soft, supple and moisturized skin.

Aromatherapy cannot be better than this. Whether you want to treat yourself with a nice, long soak in the tub with candles burning or spend quality relaxing time with your partner, these candles are perfect.

This is the Light My Fire massage candle by Love to Love. I really adore the design on this candle - purchase two of them and display them side by side to spell LOVE on a coffee table. Perfect isn't it? This candle is honey scented by the way.

Here's another massage candle with a very ergonomic design which allows the user to easily pour the oil. I think the colors of the holders are really pretty too! These are the Bwarm candles by Bswish.

Hurry! EdenFantasys is having 20% off on body care and massage until tomorrow, August 17, 2012. Check out EdenFantasys Beauty and Body products too!

Lita Inspired Booties

I have been aiming to buy an original Jeffrey Campbell Lita for quite some time now and I didn't get a chance to buy one before I left for my long holiday. Luckily I found this Lita inspired booties by the brand Primadonna. It carries unique and trendy footwear as well as ladies clothing, handbags and accessories. I got  the green quilted purse beside me from that store too!

I'm a size 6 but I have this booties in a size 5 since it was the last pair on the shelf and up on sale. Compared to the $200 value of an original Jeffrey Campbell Lita, this pair of booties only cost me Php 1,000 ($24). The quality is pretty good although I'm sure it's not quite as good as the JC Litas. Ever since I got the booties I wore it everywhere - dates, malling and partying. It's one of the most comfortable shoes I've ever walked in. The only time I felt uncomfy in them was when I was out clubbing and it was so packed because it was an after party for a concert and there were no seats available and I was standing on my feet for more than 5 hours. Other than that these booties are a great steal!

I still want to have my very own pair of an original JC Lita. But until the time that I can save up for them I'll be wearing this perfect booties around.

Food Porn

Whenever you go home, next to the people you want to see you'll go looking for food next. Here's some of my favorite dishes that I missed when I was gone that I indulged in eating when I visited. These are the reason I gained a lot of weight! :)

Pepe's Bar & Restaurant
This restaurant is one of our favorites. We had our first date here and most of the time we order the same food. :))

Dynamite Cheesesticks

Spareribs and mashed potatoes

At the Korean restaurant which we had out Valentine's and monthsary date that I always forget the name of.
We had Korean beef barbecue, steamed egg, Korean friend chicken (which wasn't served yet when the picture was taken...oops!)

 Pancake House
This restaurant is fairly new in the city and it wasn't around when I left, nevertheless, Tapsilog or beef tapa and egg which is a Filipino breakfast meal combo is my favorite.

Bob's Restaurant
Beef Salpicao

Baby backribs with baked potatoes and onion rings

Cafe Bob's

Carrot Cake

Bascon Cafe
 Palabok

Lengua Estofado

Aboy's Restaurant

Grilled marlin, grilled porkchop, steamed shrimp, pangat

Moon Cafe
Another new restaurant that I have never been to before but has amazing Mexican style food with a somewhat Filipino taste. And we had a nice tropical fruit punch too + vodka in the middle of the afternoon.
 Cheesy Beef Nachos

 Chicken Flautas

Sodam
A Korean restaurant which we love going to.
 Side dishes

 Bulgogi

Osam bulgogi - spicy vegetable, beef and squid stew

Fish shaped waffle with vanila and chocolate ice cream center

We pretty much went around most of the restaurants in the city and unfortunately had no camera with us during some of those moments. I hope you like what I shared!

Surprise Win

Before uploading another post about something from my vacation, which you might be bored hearing about, I want to share something beauty related.

Before I left for the Philippines I joined some blog giveaways and surprisingly I got an email from Christina of  THT Christina about being a second winner in her giveaway. I received the news of being a winner when I was already on vacation. My internet connection back home was so bad that it was pure luck that I had accessed it a week after Christina sent me a message that I won. Since it had already been a week since she sent me that message I gave her my information and told her that I would understand if she would be pick another winner because of my late reply.

I haven't heard from her after that and I still don't know now if she did reply because I haven't accessed my alternate email account which she messaged me at. Which was why I really was surprised when my brother knocked on my door yesterday and handed me a package.

I opened the parcel up with a confused look and only after I read her note did I remember her email. Here are the goodies she sent me.

She sent me 3 sets of fun clip on hair extensions, an NOPS BB Cream, 2 boxes of falsies, 2 masks, nail gems and a donut phone strap. I love everything she sent me. Thank you so much again Christina! Please go and visit her blog. I added her link above.

The Promise Ring

Want to hear a little about my love story? Keep on reading...

Almost 2 years ago during the time when I was feeling lost after a break up and in the middle of the Masskara Festival, our city Mardi Gras, I met a guy that has changed my life completely. We were two complete strangers that met after a couple of text messages were exchanged who based each others' looks upon our Facebook profile pictures. It was crowded when we met. The street party was in full swing for the festival. By the end of the night I was hooked to him and we started going out after that.

That happened October of 2010. A month later we officially got together. After only five months of being wonderfully in love, I had to leave him. There was nothing we could do except stay strong with the belief that our love was stronger than the distance and time apart. It was very, very hard on both of us. We struggled through the time difference and through some misunderstandings but we managed to get past it. I have never been a believer of long distance relationships but his love for me was so great that even though we were miles apart, only bound by our hearts and the wonders of technology, I could feel it.

He made me believe that true love can and will wait for you. He made me believe that not all guys are jerks and plays with women's hearts. He is such a romantic and he would do anything for me. He protects me and take care of me and goes mad with worry for me.

When I came home this summer after more than a year of long distance relationship, he made a promise that I know no other guy would be able to keep except him. He promised to be by my side forever. He promised that he would take care of me and that he would marry me on the right time. I know that those were not just empty promises. We both don't like promises that we can't keep so I know that he won't leave me.

Giving you this ring makes me so proud thinking that you're the one... giving this ring is another step for us.... I don't have any regrets babe... Giving you this ring and posting it publicly, doesn't make me ashamed of what I'm doing because all of this is for real... I love you.. forever...

For the curious ones, it's not a really expensive ring. I believe that it doesn't matter how expensive or how cheap the things another person gives you, it's really the thought that counts. It's a Pandora silver ring with a grey moonstone.

Yes, our relationship can still be considered young, only nearing it's second year, but I've seen how years of long-term serious relationships fail. I've been in one before too and this one is so different from that one. As much as we like to be together now, we know that it isn't the right time for us. We are not rushing anything. Though long distance is hard and that we had to be back at it again, I know us being together again will be worth the wait. :)

Be inspired: love.

PS:  I used to write about our love story in more detail... for those who wants to read it: Chapter1Chapter2 <3
